Q.: Can you remove pet/smoke odors?
A.: Yes! With professional installation of an AirScrubber system, over 99% of odors can be eliminated at the molecular level from both air and surfaces within the home.
Q.: My AC/Furnace is not working. Is there anything I can check first before calling Triangle Heating & Cooling?
A.: There are several common conditions that may result in reduced or poor system performance that you may want to consider before calling in the Triangle Team for troubleshooting. First, if your system is not responding at all please be sure to check the furnace fuse and ensure that all breakers inside your breaker box are in the “on” position. In some cases, a breaker may be tripped without fully moving to the “off” position, so you may want to reset the main breaker by turning it “off” and then “on.”
In addition, please visually examine your air filters and replace if soiled, damaged, or if they have not yet been changed this season. If no light shines through the filter when held up to the light, it needs changed. Be sure the filter is installed in the correct direction, as well. You may also check for any obstructions of leaves, nests, lint, and/or debris at your outside AC condenser unit, furnace, vents, and registers.
Your furnace includes a safety switch, which pops out when the access door is removed to prevent its operation. If the switch remains out when the door is replaced, you may need a new safety switch. Our technicians can perform this service for you.
You may also want to check to make sure your pilot light and thermostat are on. Be sure your thermostat is set to the correct settings and displaying the correct time (if applicable). Check whether the battery inside your thermostat needs replaced and gently blow out any accumulated dust.
Q.: What type of annual maintenance should I perform on my furnace?
A.: Each year before heating season, you should turn off your furnace and gas supply, clear away any obstructions from the furnace and air outlets/returns, and replace all filters. You should also have your system professionally inspected and serviced annually.
Q.: Should I cover my outdoor AC unit?
A.: You outdoor AC unit should never be covered during the air conditioning (AC) season. AC unit covers can be purchased to prevent leaves and debris from collecting in the bottom of the unit after you are done using it for the year.
Q.: Should I cover my outdoor AC unit?
A.: You outdoor AC unit should never be covered during the cooling season. In most cases, it is not recommended to cover your AC unit during when not in use, either. This can trap moisture within the unit and result in rust and corrosion that can damage the system.
Q.: Should I clean my ducts?
A.: Ductwork should be cleaned before installing a new system, as well as every 2-3 years, by a licensed, certified professional to help eliminate accumulated dust and debris which can act as a breeding ground for mold, dust mites, bacteria, and harmful pathogens, as well as negatively impacting the efficiency of your heating and air conditioning (AC) system.
Q.: How often should I schedule preventive maintenance?
A.: For maximum performance, efficiency, and system life, we recommend scheduling bi-annual inspection and routine maintenance (once for your heating system and once for your air conditioning (AC) system.
Q.: How can I know if I need to replace my furnace or AC Unit?
A.: Most systems are designed to provide a usable lifespan of approximately 15 years before experiencing loss of performance and efficiency, which may warrant replacement. If your system was installed more than 15 years ago, it may be more cost-effective to replace the system rather than repair it. In addition, if you find that your system requires frequent repairs or it is unable to heat/cool your home properly, it may be time to consider replacing the unit.
Q.: How can I save money on my energy bills?
A.: A few things you can do to lower your energy costs include installing a programmable or smart thermostat to avoid conditioning your home when no one is home, installing ceiling fans, ensuring that your windows and doors are properly sealed, installing more robust insulation, replacing light bulbs with a more energy-efficient type (such as LEDs of CFLs), and unplugging unused/infrequently used items when not in use. Due to significant advances in heating and air conditioning (AC) technology, you may consider replacing existing equipment with ENERGY STAR® certified ultra-high efficiency equipment.
